Subtle flaking to Cobb’s autograph downgrades his otherwise exceptionally bold penmanship from a “9†to an “8†on a scale of “1-10.†Ten more signers from the 1922 Tigers--a team that Cobb served on as player/manager--are present and scattered elsewhere, almost as if they deliberately positioned themselves as far away from their fiery skipper as possible and include: Ira Flagstead, Howard Ehmke, E.E. Rigney, Herman Pillette, Larry Woodall, Johnny Bassler, L.A. Blue, George Cutshaw, Clyde Manion, and one other. Signed balls from Cobb’s playing days rarely surface.
