The orb still sports bold, crisp stampings within its pleasing patina; and we would grade the ball a “7++/8--“ with Ruth’s impressive signature a solid “8/8--.†It is well-established that by 1930 Ruth had dropped the use of quotations when writing his first name; however, the tight version of the signature presented here allows for an even more précise estimate of its creation as unmistakably one originating in the early 1920’s and even possibly the late-teens which makes it one of only a handful of known examples from that era
